It was a book by Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper. Its been a long time since I completed a book.

And there was one more, "The Monk Downstairs", which I completed in one sitting. Particularly the letters the main character writes were highly interesting.

Ah! I wondered if you meant a non-professional writer. Haven't read anything, leave alone a book since I left sailing. I am glad the suggestions were helpful
